Max Ball
Violin
Max Ball (they/them) is a violinist currently pursuing an A.D. at University of Cincinnati’s CCM where they study with Kristin Lee and the Ariel Quartet. Max holds a B.M. from Oberlin Conservatory, where they studied with Sibbi Bernhardsson and received a Theodore Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award. They have a particular passion for chamber music, putting together a number of recitals, and attending summer programs such as the BUTI String Quartet Intensive, Encore Chamber Music Institute, and Madeline Island Fellowship Program. Alongside classical music, they also love playing jazz, having studied under Gerald Cannon and Jay Ashby, and joining several ensembles at Oberlin. A particular highlight is the PI (Performance and Improvisation) ensemble, in which players across all departments of the conservatory join forces with guest artists from around the world, playing many varied styles of music. Max also enjoys composing and arranging, with their works being performed by a number of chamber ensembles and orchestras across the country. A particular hobby of theirs is collecting and learning as many instruments as possible, having some level of fluency in 30+ instruments, including all members of the orchestra.
