HEIDI YENNEY, Violin
Heidi Yenney was a scholarship violin student of Dorothy Delay and received both her Bachelor and Master of music degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music, where she was honored with distinction in performance.
While in Boston she was principal second violinist of both the New Hampshire Symphony and the Monadnock Orchestras. She was also a member of Emmanuel Music, where she often performed as concertmaster and soloist.
In Boston, Ms. Yenney co-founded the New England String Quartet, the resident quartet at the University of Massachusetts at both Boston and Amherst. The quartet performed frequently around the New England area, as well as in California, New York ( Carnegie Hall), Jamaica and France. It also represented the state of Massachusetts for Young Audiences of America under the direction of Richard Stoltzman and Yo Yo Ma. The quartet traveled to hundreds of Elementary and Junior High schools to introduce the string quartet to children.
Ms. Yenney taught at the prestigious Phillips Academy at Andover, Ma. Her duties there included teaching violin, piano, music theory, and chamber music, conducting the chamber orchestra, and performing with the faculty’s Essex Quartet.
Since moving to Cincinnati in 1993, Ms. Yenney has remained active as a freelance musician. She has performed as concertmaster of the Northern Kentucky and Blue Ash symphonies and as a first violinist in the Cincinnati Ballet orchestra. She currently plays as an extra for the Cincinnati Symphony on both violin and viola and holds a permanent position as principal viola of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. Together with her husband ,Gerry Itzkoff, a violinist with the CSO, Ms. Yenney founded the Amicus Chamber Players. This ensemble performs a series of concerts in Cincinnati community of Clifton.
Ms. Yenney was professor of violin and director of chamber music at Xavier University from 1997 until 2003. She is presently the violin teacher for North Avondale Montessori's Suzuki program.
