CONCERT:ZERO
October 12 and 14, 2007

An introduction to concert:nova at a downtown Cincinnati loft, the ensemble performed a set of music that sampled the upcoming season. The group introduced itself, its musicians, its goals of a dynamic musical and visual educational concert experience and had a multi-media visual set up above the performance space.

 


BASS-IC INSTINCT
December 2 and 3, 2007

A concert presented by concert:nova featuring music written for the double bass, with guest artists Nico Abondolo and Nadine Sierra. The first performance took place at the Bell loft, downtown Cincinnati for a private audience of 35. The second concert took place at Below Zero Lounge, downtown Cincinnati, for a public audience of 90. Nico spoke about the history of the double bass, it’s current uses, styles, genres, demonstrated it’s versatility and wrote an original composition that featured the instrument.

 

 


NATURAL SELECTION
February 5 and 6, 2008

A green-inspired concert survey of works from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to Debussy’s “Afternoon of a Faun” to original composition by local pianist Baris Buyukyildirim. Media collaboration with Peter Kaspyrski of Cincinnati local television Channel 9. Concerts took place at Below Zero Lounge and the Yoga Home of Oakley.

 


HISTOIRE DU SOLDAT, A CONTEMPORARY RETELLING
March 9, 2008

The March 7 performance was cancelled due to snow and re-scheduled for March 9. In partnership with The Know Theatre and two area actors, the original “Histoire du Soldat” by Stravinsky was adapted to fit a modern storyline. Social commentary was added by projecting images onto two screens that flanked the stage.

 


A NIGHT OF LATIN FLAVOR
May 19, 2008

Artist Anya Gerasimchuk joined c:n to offer an blend of sound and colors, as art on canvas was presented in combination with music of Spanish or South-American origin and influence. The performance was hosted by Twist Lounge in downtown Cincinnati, with an audience of 120. The theme of ‘synasthaesia’, the ability to see colors while hearing sound, was the program’s focal point.

The Inner Peace Holistic Center presented concert:nova and an exhibit by photographer Tom McFarlane The program included Vivaldi “Spring” from the Four Seasons, Mozart, Ginastera and Piazzolla at the Center’s downtown gallery.

 


CINCINNATI OPERA AND CONCERT:NOVA
June 14, 2008

The Cincinnati Opera and concert:nova performed at the Contemporary Arts Center. c:n repeated some of its May 19 program and added sultry zarzuelas. The event attracted young professionals with a lively introduction to the Opera’s summer season, especially Daniel Catan’s La Florencia en el Amazones.
