concert:nova is a fresh and dynamic chamber music ensemble that blends together the traditional and contemporary with a visual twist to explore a modern, kinetic and powerful new concert experience in Cincinnati.

The Performers

Tatiana Berman
violin
International soloist and recitalist Tatiana Berman was born in Moscow and was the recipient of numerous awards and prized in competitions in Europe. She has recently performed as soloist with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Spartanburg Philharmonic, the London Musici, and recitals in Wigmore and Royal Festival Halls, as well as chamber music at Prussia Cove and St. Johns Church, London.

Eric Bates
violin
After studies at the Colleg-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Eric became a member of the Cincinnati Symphony where he currently serves as Second Assistant Concertmaster.  First violinist with the Duveneck String Quartet, Eric is active as a chamber musicans and has recorded an album under the Red Mark Label.  He also plays guitar in the band Fillmore's Therapy, currently in process of making their second album.   

Heidi Yenney
viola
As principal violist of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Heidi Yenney is active as a teacher of the Suzuki method, performs regularly in the Amicus Chamber Players, Blue Ashe and Kentucky Symphony Orchestras as well as other Cincinnati area ensembles. She is versatile as a musician on both the viola and the violin.

Randolph Bowman
flute
California-native Randy Bowman has been Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Flutist since 1990. After graduating from the New England Conservatory, Randy performed with the Boston Symphony, Pops Esplanade, and Ballet, as well as famed Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He is on the faculty of the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. 

Ixi Chen
clarinet
Founder and Director of concert:nova, Ixi has served as second clarinetist of the Cincinnati Symphony since 2001. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and University of Southern California, she has performed extensively in Europe and the United States and is currently a member of the faculty at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati.

Jennifer Monroe
bassoon
Jennifer has played with the Dayton, Lexington and Northern Kentucky Symphony Orchestras before joining the Cincinnati Symphony as acting Contrabassoonist in 2002. She recently won a nation-wide audition search for the position, and is now an official member of the orchestra.  Jennifer is the mother to twins Catherine and Jack born in 2006.

Elizabeth Freimuth

Before joining the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as Principal Horn, Liz served as principal horn of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and Kansas City Sympphony as well as assistant principal horn of the Colorado Symphony.  In the summers she joins the orchestras of the Sun Valley Idaho and Grand Teton Music Festivals.  She currently lives in Kenwood with her dog Snoopy and is married to another musician, Ben, who plays clarinet in the San Francisco Symphony.

Doug Lindsay
trumpet

A native Cincinnatian, Doug left his home town of Wyoming to study at Baldwin College and the Manhattan School of Music before joining the National Symphony or the Dominican Republic.  When he returned stateside, Doug played in teh Charlotte Symphony and Dayton Philharmonic.  He is currently acting principal trumpet of the CSO.

Cristian Ganicenco

Romanian trombonist Cristian Ganicenco is an international recitalist as well as principal trombonist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. he found his way to Cincinnati via the George Enescu School of Music in Bucharest, Carnegie-Mellon University and Rutgers University.

Patrick Schleker
percussion
Pat is a native of Chicago, Illinois and holds degrees from Cleveland State and Northern Illinois Universities. He joined the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as Principal Timpanist in 2006.   When he is not playing at Music Hall, Pat's interests lie in world music, jazz and composing.  

Wendy Skozcen

A Philadelphia native, Wendy has been Assistant Librarian at the Cincinnati Symphony since 2004. A graduate of Temple University in Music History and Viola, Wendy is a member of the Seven Hills Sinfonietta and the hip hop string quartet Elementz 4.   

Andy Thomas

Andy is originally from New York where he worked in the film and television industry. A gaffer by trade, Andy moved to Cincinnati five years ago with his wife and is currently working in commercial production.

Samir Aziz
creative design
Samir is a chemical engineer at Proctor & Gamble by day, but channels his artistic energy into non-profit work not only with concert:nova, but as founder of ecolution international, an organization with a passion for developing robust solutions to the worlds humanitarian and ecological problems.
