concert:nova is excited to join the second year of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s BRAHMS FEST with a celebration of the unlikely but deep friendship between Johannes Brahms and Antonin Dvorak.
Later in his life, Brahms discovered Dvorak while on a jury to recognize talented composers and was immediately overcome by the submissions of the young Czech. Brahms admired his work for its combination of compositional mastery and implementation of Czech folk melodies and immediately arranged for Dvorak’s work to be published. The evening highlights a significant aspect of Brahms’ compositions via his relationship with the young Czech composer, but more importantly shows the side of the German composer that was a generous benefactor and devoted mentor.
Featured are CSO and concert:nova soloists in the beloved Dvorak Wind Serenade and magnificent Brahms String Sextet No. 1 in Bb Major.
