Jennifer Monroe

JENNIFER MONROE, Bassoon

Jennifer Collins Monroe has been Acting Contra bassoonist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra since 2002. During the 2000-2001 season, she held the position of Second Bassoon in the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed in concert with the Lexington Philharmonic, the Northern Kentucky Symphony, and the Cincinnati Ballet, among others.

An avid chamber musician, she has received awards at the Coleman and Carmel chamber music competitions as a member of the Reading Winds. With members of the Cincinnati Symphony, she has performed on the Linton Chamber Music Series, as well as the Mayor's 801 Plum Concerts. In addition, Jennifer earned the distinction of being the first bassoonist named a Yamaha Young Performing Artist.

She has participated in numerous summer festivals including the Marlboro Music School and Festival, the Sarasota Music Festival, the Chautauqua Music Festival and School, the Opera Theatre of Lucca, and the Aspen Music Festival, where she was the winner of the 1998 Wind Concerto Competition.

Jennifer completed her Master of Music degree under William Winstead at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She previously studied with Peter Simpson at the University of Kentucky, where she earned a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude.
